KDPO has long been an admirer of social enterprise Free to Feed, which for the past five years has been creating empowering employment opportunities for refugees and asylum seekers while spreading awareness through shared food experiences.
So naturally we jumped at the chance to provide pro-bono help in May when FTF launched their fabulous new dream home and event space in North Fitzroy.
Housed in a stunning – and huge! – 800 square metre Art Deco building, it encompasses a commercial kitchen, grand ballroom, dedicated cooking experiences kitchen and an intimate living room and dining room. The space is also perfect for hosting large scale events and celebrations.
The May launch party brought together media, bloggers and influencers plus industry and social personalities. The event was hosted by fabulous cookbook author Julia Ostro, who chatted to a panel of participants and FTF founder Loretta Bolotin about the positive affect the program has had on so many lives. Scarcely a dry eye in the house, and all for a good cause.
Free to Feed’s latest enterprise attracted the attention of Good Food (online and in print), Broadsheet, The Design Files, Gourmet Traveller, Assemble Papers and SBS National News.
It sure is a long way from FTF’s humble beginnings in a small Thornbury kitchen, and one we’re super proud to have played a part in.
